HUNTINGTON -- When it comes to shopping for the 18- to 25-year-old in your life this holiday season, sports-related clothing and electronics continue to be hot items. Also, items to help make a new house or apartment feel more like home are appreciated, say area business owners.

THE GIFT OF ENTERTAINMENT: Movies and music aim to please and are quick and easy gifts for anyone on your list. Shopping for him? The Best Buy Holiday Buyer's Guide recommends movies such as "Sin City," "Cinderella Man" and "Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story." To indulge the "desperate housewife" in every woman, Best Buy suggests popular television show boxed sets including "Desperate Housewives," "Will and Grace" and "Sex & The City."

IPods continue to be high on young adults' gift lists, especially with the new video feature which allows the user to play television shows and home movies in addition to music and podcasts. Apple's iPod MP3 player range in price from $99 for the iPod Shuffle to $399 for the 60G iPod and can be purchased at local retailers such as Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Circuit City in addition to the Apple Web site www.apple.com .

MORE THAN JUST MARSHALL: When shopping for the college student, team logo and mascot sweatshirts and other clothing items are popular, said Susie Agee, manager at Glenn's Sporting Goods in Huntington. Top collegiate teams other than Marshall include North Carolina, Tennessee and Duke.

"We're selling a lot of collegiate sweatshirts and toboggans," she said. "If they are looking for something different, those teams are our top three."

Also popular with those ages 18 to 25 include ball caps featuring the New York Yankees, Columbia and North Face polar fleece jackets and Nike Shox Shoes, Agee said. Also popular last year, Nike Shox basketball and running shoes, which cost about $100, are characterized by the cushion under the heels that resemble springs.

ON THE HOME FRONT: Candles and candlescaping kits are top sellers because of their low prices, according to employees at Pier 1 Imports in Barboursville. Other popular gift items include decorative trees and ornaments, pillows, baskets, vases and shelving units to decorate the home.
