The Big Read: Subtitled 'For people who want to change the world,' this Winnipeg-based magazine certainly isn't for everyone who wants to change the world; just those with a left-leaning, anti-Harper bent. This issue's focus is on Canadian water, and how, the magazine's articles claim without much in the way of backing evidence, the Conservatives are determined to sell it all to the U.S. (It does admit that the Tories have yet to announce any sort of policy on the matter.) If strident, one-sided journalism is your cup of water, you'll find an ocean of it here.
Inside: In 'Senate Reform: The Conservatives' Dubious Democratic Agenda,' author Dennis Pilon argues that an elected Senate favours a right-wing agenda, and that if Prime Minister Harper is really serious about electoral reform, he should first tackle the House of Commons and abolish the 'first-past-the-post' system for some form of proportional representation.
Plus: Ed Janzen, listed on the masthead as Canadian Dimension's proofreader, argues in favour of CUPE Ontario's resolution calling for divestment, boycott and sanctions against Israel.
Inside: The five NHL-related things you must do before you die: party with L.A. Kings fans; attend a game between long-standing rivals -- Detroit/Chicago or Montreal/Toronto -- and take the train; eat steamed hot dogs in Montreal; join in a 'Potvin sucks!' chant at a Rangers game; and go to a Calgary-Edmonton game. Hey, what about watching Ottawa in the Stanley Cup finals?
The Big Read: 'What Boys Really Want: 8 Secrets You Need to Know' really only begs one question: What are the other seven? Ah, but no ... these 'guy secrets' to what boys are thinking include the fact that boys eat when they're hungry, like a little mystery, are good at keeping secrets, hate cliques, and, in the makeup department, like it when gals keep it real. Not a mention of s-e-x.
